The main entrance of the hospital is open from 5:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Families entering and leaving the hospital before or after these hours should use the emergency department entrance located on the southeast side of the hospital.
Patients and visitors are welcome to park in the Children's garage. Please do not park in reserved areas or other designated no-parking areas. If something happens which causes you to need assistance with your vehicle please call the Security Department at Ext. 5300. Be sure to lock your car in the visitor parking areas.
Children's Hospital is Tobacco/Alcohol-Free
To ensure a healthy environment for our patients, Children's prohibits the use of tobacco products on all Children's owned and leased properties, including entryways, sidewalks and vehicles parked on our properties. There are no designated smoking areas. Tobacco substitution products are available for purchase in the hospital gift shop.
Alcohol, illegal drugs and inappropriate chemical substances are not permitted on Children’s owned and leased properties including sidewalks and parking areas.
Telephones, Cellular and Digital Phones
Telephones are located inside each patient's room. For an outside line, dial 9 + the number. Cellular phones can cause interference with patient monitoring devices. You may receive incoming cellular calls in patient rooms, but please go to the floor's lobby area to make an outgoing cellular call.
Free Wireless (WiFi) access available for your laptop, tablet or other digital devices
We offer complimentary Wireless computer (WiFi)access at our Specialty Pediatric Clinic (SPC), the Hospital, Eating Disorders, Behavorial Health locations at this time.
Patient Gaming Consoles in Specialty Pediatric Clinic waiting areas
We offer complimentary Gaming Consoles with a variety of electronic games for patients on the 2nd and 4th floor waiting areas in the Specialty Pediatric Clinic (SPC)
Getting Something to Eat and Drink
The café is open from 6:30 a.m. to midnight daily. It is located on Lower Level 3. 24-hour vending is located next to the café and also on Lower Level 1 near the Emergency Department. The Java City coffee bar is located in the Atrium on the second floor of the hospital lobby. Hours are 6:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Parent meal trays may be purchased and delivered to your child's room. Call Ext. 8999 for a parent meal tray. Breastfeeding moms are provided with meal vouchers to be used in the café or for a delivered tray.
There is a refrigerator and a microwave available for your use. If food is given to your child from outside the hospital, be sure it is approved by your child's doctor. Complimentary coffee, tea and cocoa are available in the unit's waiting area.
Patients are welcome to get juice, pop, milk, crackers and other snacks from the Nourishment Center. Please ask for help if there is something your child wants to eat or drink that you cannot find. If your child is breast-fed, Children's has special facilities for breast pumping and milk storage.
Clinical dieticians created menus to entice the appetite while providing the required nutrition to help in healing and regaining energy. Food choices will be based on your input and your child's preferences. Meals will typically arrive around normal meal times. If you have any nutrition or diet questions, please ask your nurse to page the dietician.
For your convenience, an ATM is located on the lobby level, across from the chapel.
The Gift Shop, staffed by Children's volunteers, offers gift items, jewelry, magazines, greeting cards, candy and toiletries. The Gift Shop phone number is Ext. 4150. All gift shop proceeds directly benefit Children's. Hours are 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, and 12:30 to 5 p.m. Sunday. The Gift Shop is closed on holidays.
Patients and families at Children's Hospital & Medical Center can use CaringBridge to allow family and friends to stay in touch before, during and after hospitalization. Using CaringBridge, you can create and update a free, private and personalized web page where you can share your latest news with friends and family, and receive messages of support anytime, anywhere, and by any device.
Safety and Health
It is our top priority to keep you and your child safe while you are here. We request that you follow these safety and health guidelines:
- Identification bands must remain on your child at all times.
- Please contact your nurse when you plan to be out of your child's room.
- Patients should remain in their unit unless otherwise approved by the child's doctor or nurse.
- Crib rails should be in the highest position at all times.
- Do not place any items inside your child's crib.
- Place your child on his/her back for safe sleep.
- Safety straps must be used with all infant equipment.
- Only Mylar balloons are allowed at Children's. Rubber balloons are not permitted due to the possibility of latex allergy reactions and to prevent the possibility of children choking on pieces of a burst balloon.
Hand washing is the most important part of an infection control program. All visitors are encouraged to wash their hands or use a hand sanitizer upon entering and leaving a patient's room. All visitors under age 14 will be questioned daily regarding exposure to contagious diseases.
Visitation & Security Guidelines
We welcome visitors during your child's stay. You will be given a PROX card to allow you access into the unit. Notify us immediately if your PROX card becomes lost.
Parents, legal guardians and grandparents are welcome at any time. Wrist bands will be issued for security and identification. Parents will be issued green wrist bands; siblings and grandparents will be issued orange wrist bands. Siblings may visit with family members. For safety reasons, they may not spend the night.
In order to assist you in identifying your child's caregivers, all hospital staff, physicians and students wear photo IDs with special identification for doctors, nurses and volunteers. Child Life Specialists wear business attire and photo IDs.
Information regarding your child will not be given to anyone without your permission.
