Soon after your child returns to their room – most likely in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) – families are allowed to visit. There are no visiting hour restrictions.
- Just be prepared – your child may be hooked up to catheters, intravenous medications and breathing tubes. They are almost always responsive to you and will be able to recognize that you’re there.
- Children are resilient and recovery is often very rapid, though the return to full physical activity may be delayed for 6-12 weeks.
- Your entire family will be an integral part of the recovery process.
