Six-year-old Ella is a talker with a boundless imagination. She immerses her family into detailed stories at suppertime. She’s active and prefers to spend summer days in the pool. Her favorite birthday present is a group of chicks that she raises until they mature. Her family always reserves a dozen farm fresh eggs to share with Ella’s cardiologist, Dr. Rob Spicer.
Ella’s medical journey began even before she was born. Her complex heart disease was detected during her mother’s pregnancy. Ella has hypoplastic left heart syndrome (HLHS), a life threatening heart defect. She’s completed a three-stage surgical repair to help maximize her heart function.
For now, no operations are on the horizon. Ella sees Dr. Spicer (and delivers his eggs) once a year.
